Korean:Who(누구),When(언제),Where(어디) Usage


In the previous article, we introduced the use of '뭐' (뭐/무엇, 무슨) as an interrogative sentence. In today's article, we would like to follow the theme of 'question' and talk about how to use '누구', '언제' and '어디'. You will also be able to make simple inquiries in Korean after mastering these uses.

In today's article, we would like to follow the theme of "question" and talk about how to use "누구", "언제" and "어디". You will also be able to make simple inquiries in Korean after mastering these uses.

누구

누구 means "who". When using who as a question, there are "with who...", "to who", "from whom...", "who does..." and so on. They are often used together with 하고, 를, 에게, 에게서. Here are a few common uses.



1. 누구하고 + Verb?: do something with who?

누구하고 영화 봤어요?

Who did you watch the movie with?



2. 누구를 + Verb?: Who is used as a object.

누구를 만났어?

Who did you meet?



3. 누구예요?: Who is it?

당신은 누구예요?

Who are you?



4. 누구에게: to who

누구에게 편지를 보내나요?

Who do you write to?



5. 누구에게서: from who

누구에게서 편지를 받았어요?

Who did you get the letter from?



6. 누가: who is used as subject.

누가 편지를 썼어요?

Who wrote this letter?
누구 + 가 = 누가

언제

언제 means "when". It can be followed by a verb as a question, or you can just add 예요/야 as a question.

언제 + Verb?

회의는 언제 시작 되나요?

When does the meeting start?



언제 + 예요/야

회의 시간은 언제예요?

When is the meeting time?

어디

어디 means "where". It can be used together with the directional particle 에 to form a question. It can also be used with the particle word 에서 to form a question sentence that indicates place or location.

어디에 + go, come, go and come

어디에 가요?

Where to go?



어디에서 + Verb: at/in/on where

이 드레스는 어디에서 샀어요?

Where did you buy this dress?
